Transit

Abstraction in painting, that was realised most rigorously in Kazimir Malevich’s suprematist “Black Square on White Ground” (1915), is the starting point for Astrid Esslinger’s painting, in which she depicts figurative subjects with cultural and sociopolitical themes.

Going beyond the descriptive, narrative or commemorative function, the narratives themselves become the subject of the story, their narrative power turning into a productive force.

Barcodeslaves

Astrid Esslinger´s Cut Out Serie Strichcodessklaven makes use of graphical strategies for an artistic analysis of global power relations. Her Cut Outs are the direct product of her working visits in metropolitan regions like São Paulo, New York, Berlin, Los Angeles and Teheran. Her appropriation of logos and pictograms reflects geo-political identity constructions with artistic means, and ironically and critically relates the human figure to the codes of transnational financial and trade societies.

Alchemy of Clothing

Lecture Performance

With „Alchemy of clothing“ a lecture performance and workshop by Dr.Ida-Marie Corell, she offers a new philosophical approach to the understanding of consume and usage.

In times of overconsumption and our global throw away plastic society,
of separation between insanely
rich and insane poverty,
in times of loss of dignity
and officially
abuse
of news
in times of fakes
and in times of poisoned lakes …

Recycling turns things into other things wich is like magic.

Lecture Performance: Sonntag, 7. Mai 2017, 12 Uhr
